The Lehi Bakery

If you are ever in Lehi, Ut (you know the famous Roller Mill town from Footloose the movie?) you have to stop at the Lehi Bakery downtown.

Growing up I remember my grandparents taking us to the bakery. And now, 20 years later, our family still goes there. Any family get together requiring breakfest to be served will require a trip to the bakery.

The most famous and well loved treat by my family is the "Alligator Jaws". I personally have never eaten one of them- I'm not a big fan of getting two days worth of fat and calories in one pastry. However, all the men in the family love them and recently converted Jeremy with our last two trips.

The Bakery always has cute random stuff (like red, white and blue bread for 4th of July) and funky shaped doughnuts. Kaden had to have the foot doughnut at our last visit even though he only could finish about 4 toes.
So as we pulled out of Lehi to go to Yuba lake last month we made a stop- its inevitable.

Brynnlee likes to be clean after a big messy doughnut.

Kaden is the picture of health. He is slamming down a chocolate milk, with a doughnut on his lap, movie theather popcorn at his side, and watching a movie during the drive. It's a vacation!

4th of July

I know this Holiday occured a while back, but since I'm just getting around the uploading these pictures you get a little family flashback.

The day started off with the Freedom Festival Parade (at least that's what I think it's called) in Provo. Kaden hasn't really been to a big parade so we braved the crowds. My aunt and uncle and their family had camped out for two days to get a good spot! We were right next to the college guys who do a free pancake breakfast (too bad we had already eaten) and get on their roof and play the Jimmy Hendrix version of Star Spangled Banner with their electric guitars. So even before the parade started we were well entertained.

Kaden and Ethan waiting for the parade to begin.

There are a few "unofficial" parade walkers who begin before the parade and just walk the route. There were about 15 people dressed up in Star Wars garb who paraded through early. Here the boys give Anakin and Chewey fives. The highlight of the morning for Kaden was when Darth Vader walked by and pointed to Kaden and gave the nod. Seriously, that kid thought he had won the lottery!! He was so excited that the bad guy noticed him.

There were lots of fun cars in the parade.

And the best part is that they have REAL floats. Here you can see the bottom of one of them. Go Payson- it's all about the Onion Days!

The jets were flying by once in a while, love the Thunder!

Governor Huntsman shaking Ethan's hand.

The last entry in the parade is always the Provo, Ut Missionaries. Kaden and Ethan were excited to give the missionaries high fives and its always cool to see the entire crowd give a standing ovation as the elders and sisters walk by.

Back at Great-Grandma's house our family has been hosting the "Driveway of Fire" in Lehi, Ut for as long as I can remember. With my extended family plaguing the surrounding area once everyone brings a few fireworks we have enough to last us long into the night.

Kaden, Ethan, Brynnlee and Jensen waiting for it to get dark.

Kyla was so adorable in her festive outfit.

Nothing like jumping on the trampoline to waste away the hours.

Unfortunately, I have no pictures of the fireworks but you can trust we had a good time.

Uhhhhhh.......

I'm happy with the new template. However, I can not for the life of me figure out how to change my header up there. Does anyone know what I'm supposed to do? I thought I was somewhat saavy, but I've tried all my tricks and nothing has proven effective- this has me totally stumped. Shayla?? Jared?? Anyone??

Are You Kidding Me??

I heard Brynnlee's cries at 5:47 am. This is totally unusual for her, so I let her cry a few minutes before accepting defeat and knowing she wasn't going back to bed. This is really early for her, but even more so for me since I didn't get home until 1:30 last night. 4 hrs. of sleep is ok, right??? I'm still trying to convince myself.

However, Hairspray was so good and I'm still singing "Gooood Mooorning, BALTIMORE!" that even the lack of sleep hasn't dampened my mood. If you haven't seen it, or even heard of it, go see it. I'm sure you'll love it, and if you don't you'll at least know the song I'm singing. I totally want to ride on top of a garbage truck, too bad garbage day was yesterday... if only!

Beck's Farmers Market

This is all from the garden today. The green tomatoes are all compliments of Brynnlee. I haven't figured out how to keep her from thinking those are red... The garden looks more like a jungle right now, but at least its alive! Anyone need some vegetables??

For Randi- It's Just You!!

In honor of her request here is the recipe:

2/3 c. milk
1/6 c. butter
1 Tbsp. yeast
1/6 c. water
1 egg
2 c. flour
2/3 Tbsp. salt
1/6 c. sugar

Scald milk in microwave (1 min.). Add butter and let cool. Add egg, yeast, water, flour, salt and sugar. Beat with a spoon. Raise until doubled, approx. 1 hr. Roll out on floured surface and cut with doughnut cutter. Move onto another floured board (I use a cookie sheet). Let raise again until doubled. Fry in oil 375-400 until golden brown.

Glaze:
4 c. powdered sugar
Vanilla to taste (abt 1 tsp. my pref.)
and Water to consistency (a few Tbsp. my pref)

Where does the time go?
Really, I'm here.
I just haven't blogged.

However, I did find time during the 100+ days to fry up some of these delicious homemade doughnuts! Usually these are a fall treat, but when you get the craving sometimes you have to indulge.

Mail!

Here is an exerpt from an email I received this morning from my fabulous friend Ashlee. It made me laugh, hope you enjoy it too.

"Congratulations on completing your tri. That is so awesome. I am so glad you were able to accomplish your goal. And not only to master one event but three events, that is so great.

I don't think you know this but I too just competed in a swimming competition recently. It was called "the race for my sons life". The other day we were at our neighborhood pool and it was just us in the pool. I am waiting for Zach to jump off the side of the pool when I hear Noah screaming MOM HELP!. I turn and look and he had jumped into the deep end without his life vest and was now floundering in the deep end.

I don't think i have ever swam so fast in my life. Needless to say I won but he gave me quite a scare and the shakes for about an hour but luckily all ended well."

I tried to find a picture of Ashlee and me back in the day- but for some reason I can't find any pictures from my younger years- I'm hoping I didn't throw them out!?!?!? So Ashlee if you have a good pic- send it my way!

Yuba Lake, UT

The boys took a camping and fishing trip to Yuba Lake
on July 5-6th.

Ethan and Kaden love the boat.
Kaden liked to lay on the bow.

"I think I have a bite."

On Saturday the entire family went to the Lake to play.
Kaden and Ethan couldn't wait to tell everyone about surfing at the lake.

Ethan, Jensen, and Kaden riding the tube.
Jermey and Kaden playing in the water.

I'm not putting these chips down, but I'm not sure how to eat them either.

The "fast boat" according to Kaden. He loved riding on Bob's jet boat.

Sitting on the beach waiting for a turn on a boat, sleeping, eating and just hanging out.

Brynners was no match for the rocking motion of the boat.
She crashed out everytime we got on.

.

The wind up.

The pitch.

Safe landing.

The seaweed version of Rapunzel.

Jeremy is so handsome with hair, right?

Sun Protection

As I was looking for my phone charger I dug through our "junk drawer" in the kitchen. The charger has yet to be located, but I did find all this sunscreen in the ONE drawer. Do you think we have enough to get through the rest of summer?

Triathlon

I'm back, and not a moment too soon! We had a great time in Utah and Idaho, but as always we are glad to be back. I'll catch up on the vacation blogging later.

I know you are all dying for details... so without further ado I give you:
The Righteous Richland 2007 Triathlon.
The shore start.
Just keep swimming!! (Don't bother looking for me in this picture, I'm pretty sure I'm much further behind.)
Where am I and what am I doing??
Now it is time to pedal.
The FINISH Line!!!
I had such a fun time (except for the transition to running where I thought I might not be able to take another step)!! In all honesty Randi I just keep thinking about you running your marathon - you were my motivation to keep going!
I'm so glad that I followed through on this goal- it was such a great feeling to cross the finish line! Thanks for all your encouraging words! Thanks Karen for getting up early to swim.
Thanks Jeremy for rearranging life so I could spend the time I needed getting ready and for being the supportive husband I needed!

Update

I'm still alive, and unfortunately the day I returned from camp our computer crashed and now we are in Utah. So I will give a full report then. Rest assured I didn't drown in the river- the Tri was awesome!
