What is a girl to do?

What is the average life of a pair of nylons for you guys? Mine used to last quite a while, but the last year or so I have only been able to wear them once or twice before they are looking thrashed.

The real problem is little shoes that snag and rip the material while little people climb all over my lap throughout Sacrament Meeting.

I bought three pairs of nylons at the beginning of the month and every single one has either a run or a hole and most of the time both. Are there any indestructable nylons out there that are actually affordable? If not I may have to start wearing tights indefinitly because bare legs aren't cute in the winter (for me at least).

Heather, you are too funny. I totally know what you mean though. I can't remember the name of the brand, but I found some pretty durable ones at Target.

I think you're right about the crawling kids. Since I don't have that, my nylons seem to last exponentially longer! (like 3 months or so...)

Seriously! Yesterday I put on a BRAND NEW pair of nylons, and by the time I got home from church, there was a run from the big toe all the way up my ankle! What's up with that? Well, maybe I need to clip my big toe nail....

This is awesome Heather. I don't know how many I go through in a year, but I know it's a lot! Gotta love the runs....(in nylons that is!)

my old co-worker said she buys some good ones at Victoria Secrets. They are i think like $10 a pair, but they are dang good, cause she has little ones as well and has to wear them like 6 out of the 7 days of the week! They last a while too!

Buy a good foundation garment (ie tummy tucker short thingies) to wear under your skirts and then buy cheap knee highs. The ones at Walmart I buy are 3 pairs for a buck or buck-fifty. Then I don't feel so bad about them getting ruined.

I buy silkies because they are the toughest, longest lasting nylons I've ever seen...and the most comfortable I've ever worn!

I hear ya about little shoes snagging nylons...drives me crazy!

Go for the tights. I've been converted.

But if you haven't been convinced to go that route just yet, there are a few things. Knee highs are good with the long skirts--the cheapies at Walmart are nice because if they get ruined....so what? And if you're wearing a long skirt no one can see how cheap they are.

I buy all of my nylons at Ross or TJ Max. All the really expensive brands for like $3 a pair. That way they're nice, and if they run, I don't feel the financial heartache.

But seriously: tights rock.

Tights all the way! I hate nylons, but am a tight wad and wear them until the run is not a run, it is a huge gaping hole! So don't laugh at me when you see the hole....we are just in primary now!

I have been having seriously tights issues. I have never had a problem with tights lasting, but every pair I have bought lately get holes or runs in them the first time I put them on, literally, as I'm pulling them on. I've been getting them at Target. I seriously have given up on them altogether and have been committing the cardinal sin of bare legs in mid-winter, and it's not pretty either. And it's cold.

I hate nylons because I always put a run in them the first time I wear them. I'll have to try some of these suggestions.

I always put runs in mine too... :S But, I don't have to worry too much about it because I rarely wear them. It's warm here :)

Get some hooker boots and you can avoid nylons altogether!

I like the opaque tights trend going now. I got some at Walmart and they looked terrible, and then I got some at Target that I'm very happy with. The other route I take is L'Oreal Sublime Bronze tinted self-tanning lotion. Since it's tinted, I have a pretty good idea where I put it and usually end up with an even application. I apply moisturizer first, b/c I heard that helps. Also, they've managed to improve the odor so it isn't offensive (I might even go so far as to say it smells kind of perfume-y), it's mild, and it seems to disappear by the second day. Good luck!

Two words: Donna Karan. They're more expensive, but they'll last forever! I'm currently on a 3-year stint.

I hate nylons. I either wear Banana Republic outrageoulsy expensive tights, that I wear for 10 years because they last so well. Or I don't wear nylons or tights. Good luck.
Hey thanks for the nice comments. I truly appreciate it. It is nice to have nice friends.

That happens to you, too? Oh my..my same brand I have been using for years and years...all of a sudden they are a one use only brand. Runs the first time every time! Frustrating.

BTW I emailed you the recipe.
