WARNING: This is not the post I have been working on, BUT this moment just had to be blogged about.
So, as metioned before I went to the orthodontist today. Everything was great until I check out. The sweet lady, who in her defense is new, prints all my receipts and appointment cards and then proceeds to ask:
"Do you need a school excuse today?"
"No, I don't."
I'm sure I gave her a weird look because then this comes flying out of her mouth.
"So how old are you?"
"Uhh.. I'm 26 and I have two kids." (I'm trying really hard to be polite and not leap over the desk to strangle this sweet grandma).
"Wow. I just saw your wedding ring now. I guess that is a compliment that you look so young."
YEAH Lady, it's freakin' awesome to look like your 15!! No, I didn't say that but SERIOUSLY! I would have have liked to. The whole way home I had to laugh. Just when I think I start looking my age...
I'm sure I will love it when I'm 45 and people still think I'm a spry 34 but for now its kind of insulting.

Oh Heather that is such a cute story. It must be something that happens after you turn 30. Last winter a salesman knocked on my door and I answered it without any make-up and he asked if my mom or dad were home. I just smiled and said no. It made me feel very good and then I realized that was probably his sales pitch, he probably says that to everyone just so they let him in thier house. If that was the case it blew up in his face that day.
This is so hillarious Heather! Did she want to see your driver's license and SSN just to be sure!
This has happened to me before too. When Jake was a brand new baby, I took him into Kadlec to get his second PKU. I had all three kids with me and this old lady who was waiting for her husband kept staring me down. I tried to be polite and just smile and wave. Finally she approached me and asked if ALL of those kids were MINE. After affirming that I did in fact birth each of them, she proclaimed that I must have started when I was 15 to have a kid as old as Hannah. (Who was 3 1/2 at the time by the way). "No, no, I'm 26, not 18. And I had my first at 22 thank you very much WITH MY HUSBAND BY MY SIDE!" I didn't say all of that, but pretty much.
At this point in my life, I still find it insulting when people think I'm a lot younger than I really am. Ten years from now...I'm sure that will be a different story.
Okay, I just wrote an actual blog for a comment. Sorry about that Heather!
Your story totally made me laugh, Heather! I recently got my temple recommend renewed. When I went in for my stake appointment, I was asked if I was there for my CES interview (the interview you need for college). I think he was embarrassed when he realized that I was married with 2 kids.
haha, I'm still laughing at this! You should have said yeah I'll show it to my 3 year old!
Too funny. I'm almost 29 and someone on the phone the other day thought i sound 14. Great thanks! NOT!
Heather, what a cute story. I think you are right, years down the road, you will be thrilled to be mistaken for a young'un!
lol thats way too funny! When i was 10 i always got asked if i was 15...if that makes u feel ne better! :P hehe. but now i have a baby face so i'm sure i'll be encountering those same problems as u in years to come!
That is so funny. I would have been ticked. It's as if she just assumes that since you have braces you must be a teenager. I can't stand clueless people like that. So, apparently I am the only one that has NEVER been mistaken as being younger than I am. What the heck does that say about me?!
I have patients and co-workers that always think I am 18 and a student. They are always shocked to find out I graduated from COLLEGE five years ago. In a few years I think all of us will enjoy being mistaken for a younger age.
One day working at Maverik in Rexburg I carded a woman for alcohol and she proudly retrieved her ID and yelled to the entire store, "I love you."
