Caution: Sharp Curves Ahead

So we were out of town when they made the big announcement on Sunday. Our ward being split came as no surprise, we've all been anticipating it for a while.

I've been taking it all in stride but last night at mutual, when I actually had a minute to let it sink in, it started to become real. It was combined last night and we were collecting and organizing all the Salvation Army food boxes. The Bishop asked the youth if they had any questions about what was happening so that started a great discussion. He ended by bearing his testimony and asking the YW and YM Presidents to do that as well. It was such a great way to spend the last mutual with our Youth all together.

We have been knowing this had to be in the works for a long time and now it is finally happening. Don't get me wrong, I'm really excited to maybe have a manageable size ward, but I really will miss all the people and fun. I've been in YW for 4 years now. It's kind of a part of who I am. I know a lot of you might think 4 years isn't really that long to be in a calling, but when that has encompassed 4/7ths of you entire married life, trust me it seems like a long time. I will miss all the YW and the leaders that I have been able to learn from and have fun with. Seriously its such a hard, demanding, time consuming, draining calling, but at the same time I will partly be lost without it. But I shouldn't get too nostalgic because there is a 50/50 chance I will not be in the new ward, and therefore will not be released from my calling.

But what I am guaranteed is that no matter how the boundaries end up I will not be in the same ward with a lot of people who I will miss. I know, I should be used to this. This is the 3rd split Jeremy and I have been through in the last 5 years. Change is good, but it is also hard. My fall back though is that I do have blogging to keep me connected to my soon-to-be-split friends and my soon-to-be-banished-to-the-Stake-Center-friends.

Blogging solves all the worlds problems, doesn't it?

That sounds like a great Mutual Night! Your bishop sounds like he's got it together, cares about the youth and leaders. It will be an interesting change! I'll be anxious to hear what happens in your meeting at 3 p.m. Sounds like a lot of changes will occur! You are right. Blogging will help keep people united! I'll be excited to read and hear who is in what wards and etc! So keep us posted!

I think change is so difficult. I hope everyone makes the transition well.

The thought of not being in YW makes me SO sad, and I've only been at my calling for 11 months! I'm nervous and excited at the same time. Maybe we'll end up in the same ward together again! I guess we'll see in just a few days!

It's always interesting, isn't it? If you can just hang on - it'll all work out really well.
And YES about blogging! It's so much easier to stay connected anymore.

So sorry. Splits can be rough, but they've got to be done to make things more manageable (afterall, don't you have like 4 nurseries and a gazillion kids in Primary?)

Hope everything works out.

I think this will really benefit your ward Heather, I know you guys have been struggling with the size and accomadations for a long time. I'm ready to just roll with the new wave of change, whatever it brings.

It's technically 8 nurseries Kristen. And I'm thrilled about the split- but a little sad too.

I remember way back in '92 when they first split third ward and put a weird little chunk of us in first ward. I was 11 and I thought it was the end of the world. All my friends were in my class with me at church (there were like 8 of us), I wasn't good with change. I cried when I found out we had been moved to a different ward. I moved into first ward where there was me and one other merry miss. But it was the best, BEST thing that could have happened to me and my family. We loved it. It was a ward that felt so much like a family. I still remember all of my young women leaders and how incredible they were. I feel like the crazy, random division of the ward was for my families sake.

I know by know you are getting to be a veteran of splitting wards, but I think each new change has so much potential, not only for you and your family, but for the ones that you will make an impact on. Look at it not as losing friends (because really you still live within five minutes of everybody), but as getting an opportunity to meet so many more people, making so many more great friends.

That sounded like an after school special. Sorry.

Heather, I miss reading your family blog. I would love to get an invite so the family up North can stay updated on what's going on! I'm sure Sherilyn would love an invite as well. Jessica has my email address if you need it.

Good luck with the new ward!
Thanks!!!
Karla
