You Complete Me

So you know how husbands and wives are supposed to compliment eachother? We all have strenghts and weaknesses and one can pick up where the other leaves off yada, yada, yada. Jeremy and I have good balance in our marriage and for the most part I appreciate it.

BUT there is one area where I would appreciate a lititle less effort on his part. That would be in the gift giving department. Husbands are supposed to schmucky and forget anniversaries, birthdays, special occasions, etc. and never bring flowers and get you a crappy gifts from Wal*Mart at midnight the night before, right? And wives are supposed to be so thoughtful and have pefect gifts ready months in advance.

At our house we have those roles so reversed it is not even funny! It drives me insane. Every holiday, birthday and anniversary I'm determined to do something great and every time I disappoint myself.

Take for instance last night. We were discussing Valentine's Day and Jeremy smugly tells me that he has everything already taken care of for me. Which means he has a super fabulous gift that I'm going to love and he can't help but torture me with this knowledge 9 days before Valentine's Day actually arrives.

"Well that's easy for you cuz you aren't homebound like me." I retort. Yeah, lame comeback. I already know, you don't need to point it out.

"Oh Heather, I didn't even have to leave the house!" he says with a twinkle in his eyes.

OH MY GOSH!!! Can I staple my head to the carpet now?

I'm trying to defend myself and make excuses as to why I will be spending the day before Valentines rushing to get him something AHHHSOME, which will in fact never materialize and I'll be forced to grab something he may or may not even want and he's reminding me that if I was really smart and ingenuitive and a not-so-junky-wife I would figure out that "Where there is a will there's a way". Ok, so he really isn't reminding me of that but I'm guilty enough of said crimes that he doesn't have to, I feel that shame all on my own.

Jer could you stop being so pefectly perfect and just grab me a crappy diamond heart necklace with a teddy bear so I won't feel as bad about the dorky gifts I always seem to drum up?

Seriously! {except the diamond heart necklace part. I actually really DON'T want one of those and will roll my eyes and barf if you come home with one, unless Kaden has already picked it out in which case I will gush over how much I love it and wear it faithfully every Sunday to show him how MUCH I love it.}

I have the same problem!!

Hmmm. Let's think of something amazing to get or do for our husbands this year.
I'm thinking....
I'm thinking...

This is where I always get stuck.

I have the same problem.
I can never think of anything gift to top his.
It is cute that he puts so much thought into it.

Same here! See, it's universal? Brad has always been AWESOME at gift giving, but ever since he gave me THE HOUSE, I've been really hosed.

Just try not to think of it as a competition. He knows you adore him so that's all that matters, right?

Yeah, it sounds lame to me too. I'll keep thinking....

It's always hard for me to think of something good to get Riley for Valentine's Day, especially because his birthday is on the 3rd of the month. If anyone has some good ideas let me know, because usually I just make a fun dinner or we go out to dinner. Pretty exciting, I know. And Heather, I would not be complaining if I were you. LUCKY!!!!

Yup you are going to love it! I can't wait to hear what you think about it.....it's pretty AHHHSOME! Ü

This post was hilarious! You crack me up. And, yeah, same problem here. Remember my V-Day last year? I got Bill some stupid movie and he got me a romantic getaway weekend? (Okay, we'll ignore the fact that the romantic getaway was a dump in the middle of the ghetto) Yeah, I suck at good gifts. But I have to say I would love a diamond necklace. Even if it is a heart.

We have low expectations at our house and we both know it and accept it. One year I got Brent some new toe nail clippers, it's as easy as that and he appreciated them. No pressure!!

Heather, this was funny! I wish that was the situation at our house. We both never really get anything for each other. One year, I did get Jack a drill, and that won his heart. But nowadays, we just don't do gifts. We need to though. It would be fun. Good luck.

You are so dang funny Heather.

Ever since that one flowers out of the dumpster incident, we gave up on the whole Valentine's gift thing.

Can't wait to see your necklace at church!

I have the same problem too! I told him we are not spending any money on each other this year! Just movie and dinner!!!
So...I can't wait to see what you got!

In our family, I think I'm probably the better gift giver when it comes to actual material things. Jared's the better gift giver when it comes to thoughtfulness though. He and the kids always make me these really nice books and things like that.

Toe nail clippers?? Deb that is too sweet!

JESSICA you are NOT helping the situation.

What a problem. I think your a lucky ducky. I appreciate all the comments too. Deb gave me an idea for a nose hair clipper for Ed. Maybe thats what will make his day.
Oh our poor husbands. If they only knew how we use them for the sake of a chuckle.

I think men are really hard to buy for on Valentine's Day. You can't do flowers, chocolates will get eaten but they don't like the heart shaped box, and men don't wear much jewelery. I have no clue what to do for V-day this year. Good luck, Heather!

How about a nice back rub and some "quality" alone time? It's a win win really:)

I really want to see you staple your head to the carpet. Just Kidding. That would be bloody and gross.

Well, at least you have someone to dote over you. And whatever domestic goddess! Just whip up one of your fabulous baked goods.

For a moment there, I thought I was reading my own post! I love and hate special occasions. I love them b/c they're so exciting to look forward to, but hate them b/c I have THE HARDEST time coming up with how to celebrate them so they are worth looking forward to! And Michael always rocks in the gift-giving dept. Me, not so much. This year, he kind of planted the "30 days of 30" idea in my head to celebrate him turning 30... only I didn't clue in until 3 days before his birthday. I think it would have been better if it had culminated on his birthday. Instead, it will drag his birthday out 27 more days. But that's not so bad. It's coming up with 27 more ideas of 30 gifts to give him each day! Aargh! I've really set myself up here!

Wow! I guess I am really alone on this one. DH is just too busy, I think. I am the one that gets a cheesy stuffed animal with a heart on it becaues he didn't have time to do anything prior to 8 pm on Valentine's Day and that is what they have left! I just have to remember all the other things he does well or he'd disappoint me in the gift department EVERY time.

Good luck on the quality gift for him, though. The good thing about DH not being good at it is that I don't have to be either!

Look at my post now....changed the question! Ha! What do you think? Better?

How about a homemade card with a handkerchief on it that says, "AH-CHOOSE" YOU???

You're welcome.

I don't know what to get my hubby either... Umm... well... I ... yeah. I got nothing. Good luck!
